During the 20th century, the region on the Lahn-Dill (2 Rivers that flow through the County of Hesse) was shaped by both the Iron Mining as well as by the relating processing industries. With the termination in 1983 of the iron ore mining in the Fortuna mine, this tradition ended. A tradition that existed since the the Celtic period (2000+ years ago). Today, our guests can visit the last classic iron ore mine in Germany in its original condition.

The Fortuna Field- and Mine Railway Museum, a Railway Museum on the Fortuna colliery site, can also be visited. It offers an interesting insight into the past world of the narrow gauge railways that were widespread in the past and almost do not exist anymore. These narrow gauge railways transported not only raw materials underground but also sometimes people. With 57 locomotives and approx. 100 cars, the museum presents one of the most interesting 600 mm gauge collections in Europe. The Museum offers guided tours and train rides on request.
The Restaurant on the colliery site, the Gaststätte Zum Zechenhaus offers a wide range of food and drinks.
